Our school is one of the oldest vocational high schools in Turkey started its` education on 16.09.1945 under the name of Tophane Vocational High School in the Military Command Center. In 1958 our recent building was condemned and during World War I it was demanded to be used as the Italian Embassy so the building was rebuilt. But due to the war, the construction stopped. The building was used by the general directorate of monopolies for a while. After that with the help of Mr Fahrettin Kerim Gökay who was the mayor of Istanbul at that time, was moved to its current building under the name of Maçka Technical School. In turn the school educated many students under the names of Technical Teacher College, Technician High School and Technician College. After a while these schools were closed and it was renamed as Maçka Vocational High School. Since 1969 our school has been Maçka Technical Industrial and Vocational High School. In 1992 its name was changed to Maçka Akif Tunçel Technical Industrial and Vocational High School up to the present.
